Sport and Physical Education

Sport plays a very important part at St Richard’s where, throughout the school, children are encouraged by qualified and experienced coaches to achieve their best, from representing the school to becoming county players at all age groups.  We have three sports-fields, three tennis/netball courts, a heated outdoor swimming pool and multi-use sports hall equipped with traditional wall-bars and gymnastic equipment.

Pre-Prep sport is taken by coaches from the main school, who introduce children to the skills and tactics of the sports they will take part in later on.  From Year IV onwards every child takes part in team-games, as well as individually, in tennis, athletics, gymnastics and swimming, which is coached at a local indoor pool.

At every age group, each child will take part in representing the school, and the particularly talented have the opportunity to attend county trials.

There are games periods every afternoon and the timetable includes specific year-group lessons in hand/eye co-ordination, gymnastic and swimming skills.

St Richard’s is a British Horse Society approved riding establishment, of which about a third of the school take advantage. Click here for further details of the riding.

As well as PE lessons and games periods, pupils are encouraged to develop their performance skills in dance - from ballet lessons for the pre-prep to choreographed musicals for the main school, not to mention the occasional disco, and every child in the last two years enjoys an outdoor adventure involving camping and various survival skills.
